A Design for Comfort and Precision
- Ever since King C. Gillette patented his single-edge safety razor in 1901, an advance over the old-fashioned "cut throat" straight razor, the improvements have never stopped coming. With the introduction of the Fusion design, the efficient five-blade shaving surface from Gillette is combined with a flexible comfort guard that helps the blades to follow the contours of the face. On the back of the cartridge is a precision trimming blade, perfect for reaching those tricky places such as under the nose and to maintain an even edge for sideburns.
The Science of Blade Design
- Years of research and engineering effort have gone into the design of Gillette cartridge. Multi-blade technology was developed to use the physics of hysteresis when shaving: As the first blade passes over a hair, it pulls and holds the hair shaft above the skin surface, so subsequent blades can cut it smoothly and cleanly. The five-blade array used in the Fusion cartridge is designed to spread the pressure of the cutting edges over a greater surface area. Combined with this design is Gillette's patented blade manufacturing process, which provides a uniform micro coating only 1/100th of a micron thick. This means the cutting edge is so sharp that it cuts through the hair with less tugging and more comfort.
